Umar Farooq

Umar Farooq (ra), the second Caliph of Islam, ruled for nearly ten years over a total area of 2,251,030 square miles. His governance was exemplary, with every decision and action guided by Allah's word as written in the Quran.

It's difficult to envision a ruler with a vast dominion like Umar Farooq's (ra) living like a commoner. But that is exactly what he did. He wore patched clothes, slept on the floor, ate simple food, and travelled to distant regions with only one servant and a camel. Umar Farooq (ra) had a strong sense of responsibility and justice.

Throughout his reign, everyone was treated equally and justly, whether he was a Muslim or not. He lived in Allah's love and fear. There was and still is no other ruler like him in the history of the world: he was unique.
